The village is situated in a lush green valley adorned with a small stream that adds to its charm is just 1 km away from an ancient temple, located on the bank of the river is believed to be created by Lord Shiva himself making it an ideal place to experience the ataraxia of nature.
The place got it’s name from the word ‘Khola’ which is derived from a ‘Nepali’ word means River. And the name ‘Shivakhola’ derived from this temple of lord Shiva placed at the bank of
this river.

Nestled amidst the Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary, Shivkhola is a haven for bird watchers and  wildlife photographers. It offers a unique opportunity to witness a variety of wild animals and birds. The area is particularly renowned for its diverse bird population, with a plethora of species to be spotted. In addition, Shivkhola Adventure Camp is a popular attraction that offers many adventure activities, including trekking.  Located a mere 14 km away from Shivkhola, the Mahaldiram Sunrise View Point offers a breathtaking view of the mighty Kanchenjunga. Visitors are sure to be mesmerized by the stunning reflection of the sun on the mountain, creating a truly unforgettable experience.

Ways to reach:
The journey to Shivkhola takes around 2.5-3 hours by car from Siliguri via the stunning forest of Sukna and Rongtong Tea Estate. The road between Sukna and Rongtong is one of the most picturesque roads in the country, offering a feast for the eyes and a perfect opportunity to
unwind.
